EXTENSION OF HOTEL MERTIN, CHOMUTOV

In the heart of Chomutov, where the neoclassical Hotel Mertin stands quietly among the city’s historic layers, a modest architectural addition finds its place. Tasked with expanding the restaurant and creating a sheltered outdoor seating area, the design responds not with grandeur, but with restraint.

The new structure unfolds as a contemporary counterpoint — an understated canopy of exposed concrete, glass, and greenery. More than an extension, it becomes a quiet threshold between interior and exterior, between city life and calm repose. It also offers shelter for parked cars, blending utility with subtle elegance.

Avoiding ornamental gestures, the extension allows the existing architecture to remain the protagonist, while its simple material palette reflects the present with clarity and respect. Here, modernity does not compete with history — it coexists beside it, lightly and deliberately.
